• Online Seminar: Speeding the Analysis of TBN in Lubricating Oils using FTIR Spectroscopy

Thank you for your interest in Speeding the Analysis of TBN in Lubricating Oils using FTIR Spectroscopy.

Description: Total Base Number (TBN) has been used for many years to determine the condition of used oil. It provides an indication of the remaining potential to neutralize acidic substances to which the oil may be exposed in the course of engine operation. The ASTM method often used is an older potentiometric titration method. Newer methods, such as FTIR coupled with chemometric models can provide a rapid method yielding more reliable information. This talk will summarize the state of the art for TBN analysis.
