Thank you for your interest in the “Blood-Alcohol Analysis by Headspace-GC” webcast!
This webcast describes the benefits of headspace-GC technology for the analysis of alcohol in blood.
Testing for the presence and subsequent quantitation of ethanol in blood, breath and urine are the highest volume tests performed in forensic laboratories. Direct injection of biological samples into GC columns has been used in the past as the method of sample introduction. This typically leads to column contamination and decreased performance. The incorporation of headspace sampling into the method prevents the buildup of nonvolatile contamination at the head of the column and helps to maintain consistent performance and extend column lifetime.
An expert in the forensic testing field provides an overview of headspace-sampling technology, followed by detailed results and optimized method parameters specifically for blood-alcohol samples. Accuracy and precision are demonstrated using a PerkinElmer® TurboMatrix™ Headspace Sampler coupled with a Clarus® GC. In addition to the standard headspace blood-alcohol analysis, other method considerations are discussed, including other volatile components of interest, as well as options for achieving significantly lower detection limits.
