Acapella - A Comprehensive Toolbox for High Content Analysis

Acapella

Acapella™ is a highly flexible and powerful image data processing system which can be applied to a broad range of applications. It comes with a set of ready made application solutions – known as “Scripts” – with instructions to use and modify, but it is also fully flexible for new algorithm development. The Acapella Script Collection is regularly extended and is available to all Acapella users.

Acapella is particularly suited to high throughput, high content cellular assays, especially multiplexed scenarios. Its open architecture allows the user to develop assays by building on essential analysis steps such as nucleus detection, cytoplasm detection, cell compartment detection and quantifying events within the detected segments, so that new assays are progressed from sure foundations. The user can select and combine algorithms by using visual feedback. A comprehensive range of best-fit algorithms is included, each optimized for cell type, staining and imaging condition.

Features include:

  • Set of readymade applications for immediate use, or to use as a starting point for new applications.
  • Open architecture for creation of new assays – provides ultimate flexibility for development of algorithms.
  • Optimized for high speed online image analysis and for processing large data sets.
  • Superior segmentation algorithms for accurate separation on even confluent cell layers.
  • Unique, comprehensive collection of algorithm sets for nucleus, cell body and spot detection - allows new applications to be developed by using “choose best-fit and combine” approach.

Cellular Assay Library

Cellular Assay Library

Developing your own customized assays is easy in Acapella. Starting with the Cellular Assay Library, cells can reliably be identified from nuclear stain.

The Cellular Assay Library is a set of building blocks for convenient assay development comprising:

  • Nucleus Detection
  • Cytoplasm Detection
  • Object Region Selection
  • Spot Quantification

Neurite Outgrowth Analysis Library

Cellular Assay Library

The Neurite Outgrowth Analysis Library can be purchased as an add-on to your system. It uses “best in class” algorithms for neurite detection, classification and quantification. Individual cell neurites can be identified and allocated to individual cells, for accurate and precise results.

Parameters that can be quantified include:

  • Number of cells
  • Individual cell label
  • Total length of neurites
  • Longest neurite of a cell
  • Number of root neurites
  • Number of branch points
  • Number of extreme neurites

NEW! Acapella Linux Edition

Acapella, the highly flexible and powerful image data processing system for high throughput screening, is now also available in a Linux edition. As a result, Acapella now offers full support for Unix based cluster technologies enabling ultra high speed image analysis and analysis of very large data sets. Acapella's superior segmentation algorithms, including nuclear detection, cytoplasmic detection and cell compartment detection, are now offered in the most reliable open source operating system - Linux.
