How can we help you?

Our EcoAnalytix™ initiative is focused on providing information and instrument solutions that enable consumer goods manufacturers to assure the safety of the products they produce. Our application focused measurement solutions have been developed to detect harmful contaminants in a wide range of consumer products. We're keeping abreast of the changes to legislation, new laws and testing requirements that affect the industry.

Manufacturers

Manufacturers

Manufacturers may need to develop a quality assurance program to ensure products meet safety standards which may include screening raw materials and sub-components, so that there's a greater likelihood that final products meet standards and can be certified by a testing lab. Learn More

Regulations & Compliance

Government ComplianceNew lower lead limits (CPSIA 2008) took effect August 14, 2009 reducing lead levels from 600 ppm to 90 ppm. (CPSC lead stay update 12/18/09) In the United States (US), and the European Union (EU), governments have proposed and or updated requirements for consumer product safety testing. In the US the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has tightened standards related to lead and plasticizers (Phthalates) in toys. The EU has also proposed revisions to EN-71 (standards for toys) to expand the number of metals and organic contaminants regulated in toys. Learn more.

Regulations & Standards

Phthalates

  • Phthalate Directive 2005/84/EC - EU Directive 2005/84/EC (so called Phthalate Directive), restricts the use of 6 types of phthalates in toys and childcare articles.
  • CPSC Issues Guidance For Complying With Phthalates Requirements In New Child Safety Law - February 10, 2009, children’s toys and child care articles cannot contain more that 0.1% of 6 phthalates (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, and DnOP) regardless of when they were manufactured.    Read more.
Metals
  • EN 71-3, 8, 9 & 10: Safety of Toys - This part of this European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for the migration of the elements antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury and selenium from toy materials and from parts of toys except materials not accessible.
  • ASTM F963: Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety - This specification relates to possible hazards that may not be recognized readily by the public and that may be encountered in the normal use for which a toy is intended or after reasonably foreseeable abuse.
