Lab Relocation: Experts in moving multi-vendor labs

OneSource - Experts in Moving Multi-Vendor Labs

For more than 60 years, we have been designing, manufacturing, supporting, and servicing scientific instruments. This depth of experience is our foundation for understanding our customers’ complex scientific and business needs – not only in running a laboratory, but in moving one too.

As the leading multi-vendor service provider – handling Agilent, Thermo, Waters and other brands - OneSource is positioned to be a true single point of contact for an entire lab move. The time, expense, and complexities of using multiple outside vendors for relocation are vastly reduced when OneSource manages lab relocation.

Laboratory moves – it's a question of time and money

OneSource’s multi-vendors skills are an immediate advantage from the very outset when planning a laboratory move.

Without OneSource, a typical relocation would require that the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for each instrument be contacted and scheduled to handle the shutdown and packing of their systems. Yet another third party would coordinate the physical move. After delivery, the process of working with the OEMs is repeated.

Scheduling a variety of OEM engineers is time-consuming, at best. Worse yet is the inevitable lack of coordination of the various resources, and the disruptive impact on your laboratory workflow.

The utilization of multiple resources requires multiple plans and multiple schedules … getting everything to mesh in the best interests of your laboratory scheduling may not be impossible, but it may be nearly impossible.

OneSource – the smart option for multi-vendor lab relocation

In comparison, the OneSource solution to laboratory relocation is exactly that: one source.

OneSource engineers are trained on multiple instruments from multiple manufacturers. In a lab relocation, this means you save time and money from the very outset, when the move plan first begins to take shape. Instead of multiple plans, there is one, unified plan.

With OneSource cross-trained personnel, the team needed to disassemble, re-assemble and qualify instruments is already on the job. It also means that the specialist needed to handle any special problem is also a member of the same OneSource team, coordinated by the same OneSource manager.

Rarely, do we need to reach outside of our own resources for specialized technical assistance … and in these cases, we still control the process.

With OneSource as project manager in a relocation, our own multi-vendor team minimizes downtime by coordinating activities to mesh with the workflow needs of the lab.

As the single authority over the relocation process, we can work with our customers to schedule an orderly shutdown sequence; and a workflow-friendly startup sequence at the destination.

Experienced engineers trained on a variety of instruments

OneSource is the only major instrument service provider with on-staff multi-vendor engineers trained on a variety of instruments.

PerkinElmer has invested more than $4 million in training centers in the United States and Europe to ensure OneSource engineers have hands-on experience on a variety of lab instruments from various manufacturers.

OneSource engineers’ multi-vendor training is compelling when considering the move of "mixed-systems" – instrument systems assembled using components from various manufacturers. Typically OEM service teams will not take responsibility for mixed systems.

However, the OneSource proposition is exactly the opposite. At OneSource we embrace these systems, and we have invested in a trained and ready team that is uniquely prepared to handle these "hybrid" instruments.

Lab relocations … big or small

OneSource’s seasoned lab relocation experts have moved labs down the hall, across the street, and across the county - with the lab relocations ranging from single instrument to entire facilities.

Large-scale lab relocations managed by OneSource include:

  • Moving a GLP / GMP facility with more than 1,000 instruments (including more than 140 research / QA instruments) to a new state-of-the-art 180,000 sq. ft. facility. Being a regulated facility, the move entailed pre- and post-calibration and qualification / validation as well as preparation of all documentation necessary for audit trails to maintain regulatory status. Included in this move was the transportation of restricted samples kept in -80°C, -20°C and 4°C freezers and refrigerators.
  • Transporting 25,000 temperature-sensitive samples utilizing a climate controlled trailer and monitoring environment for temperature deviation.
  • Moving multi-site R&D lab facilities into a new state-of-the-art 550,000 square foot facility – and also to help transition the company to meet regulatory compliance guidelines. Today, OneSource continues onsite providing multi-vendor service and qualification.
  • Moving more than 800 pieces of laboratory equipment from New Jersey to North Carolina, including HPLCs, LCMS, GCMS, spectrophotometers, refrigerators, freezers, hoods and other lab equipment.

The expertise and protocols used in these large-scale cross-country lab moves are the same advantages we put to work for smaller-scale moves down the hall or down the street.

The relocation does not need to be a large one for the advantages of using OneSource to be clear.

Experience on a variety of instruments and brands

OneSource’s engineers have experience in moving sophisticated laboratory instruments, traditional equipment, and hybrid "mixed-systems" built with modules from a variety of manufacturers. If a lab has a specialized instrument that absolutely requires OEM intervention, then OneSource can manage that process as well.

Streamlining lab relocation

OneSource’s multi-vendor skills combine with proven relocation experience and a 60-year history in instrument design, manufacture, support, and service – all to ensure a timely move and resumption of operations with the highest quality of analysis.
